What do you feel was the biggest factor in your decision to hire us when comparing to other companies (price, advertising, song list)? Do you recall any other DJ services you considered?
I first found Adagio through a recommendation from the Calhoun Beach Club's Brenda Probasco. I also reviewed Instant Request and Bellagala. Instant Request was a contender for a time, but in the end what led me to select Adagio was simply the way Jay talks about music and an event. And through working with Troy and his assistant closer to the wedding it seems that Adagio hires like-minded people. You start with how the night will feel and what the guests will feel in listening to the music and seeing the lighting. Music is meant to cause an emotional response and a wedding reception is meant to be experienced and remembered. Adagio ensured that happened by understanding the details of the night flowed from the tone of the night. I felt that your competitors approached the event coldly, like a simple set of details that needed to be executed at a specific time. I like those details to be used towards an end (use this lighting to transform the dance after sunset, play these songs to get the guests feeling nostalgic, maintain this schedule to keep the momentum of the evening up to keep the guests hooked and lost in the fun of the event), and no one else was selling that. Your approach is warmer and more all-encompassing, while remaining precise and professional. It was a fantastic balance.
What was your overall wedding budget excluding honeymoon and rings?
Between $20,000 and $25,000.
If you did not use us for invitations, programs, gifts, or dance instruction can you tell us what affected your decision and/or what we can offer that would have been more attractive to you?
We did not use dance instruction simply because we were out of town. We used the gifts to bring a Texas element into the wedding, so again, location hurt. With the invitations and programs, I found the options to be limiting. I was looking to design my own invitations and have them custom printed.
If you did use us for any of our additional services can you tell us what your motivating factor was and if you were pleased with the service?
I leveraged your partnership with Ned Kantar, and I could not be more happy that I did. The live music was wonderful. Having that partnership also help sell us on Adagio in the first place.
If you could do it over, what would you say was a "do" or "don't" in hiring vendors or planning the day? May we share your answers? Your full name will not be posted.
After setting the perfect schedule with the DJ, make sure to review it with your caterer, event space, photographer, parents, and bridal party repeatedly. Relentlessly. Be obnoxious about it. In my specific case, Troy and I were very in sync, but the caterer was off, despite having reviewed the schedule with them as well.

Troy really was an awesome fit for Priscilla and I (and for our guests). It was hard to get the dancing going at first because the weather was so great outside on the patio and we had a line at the photobooth in the back, but the music playing in the background was perfect and kept people smiling. Things eventually picked up just fine. Basically, for us and our guests, the evening was a rousing success despite not having a packed dance floor all night. There was a point when a few guest told me they were leaving and we said goodbye. Then, Troy played Apache (Jump On It), followed by song after song where we was just knocking it out of the park. They stayed for another hour and half. :) I would also like to thank Jay for his reference for Floral Logic and Traveling Photo Booth. They both ended up being amazing vendors.
